Edelman India has announced the appointment of Vijay Sankaran as Head - Digital (India) and Carolina James Bajaj as Associate Director, Mumbai office lead, to further strengthen its senior leadership team.

Sankaran has over two decades of experience in branding, advertising, digital and integrated communications for established clients in the automotive, banking, consumer durables, engineering, FMCG, financial services and IT sectors.

Before joining Edelman Sankaran worked with Nokia Siemens Networks as Head, Social Media. In this role he planned, managed and evangelised a social approach to external communications and marketing. He also worked with Urja Communications, a leading Indian digital marketing agency, where he helped conceptualise agency offerings and evolved strategic solutions for clients. Sankaran played a key role in leading Urja's evolution from an advertising agency into a digital marketing firm, as part of the agency's leadership team.

Based in Mumbai, he will lead the expansion of the firm's already significant digital offering. “I look forward to building a full service digital capability under the Edelman India umbrella. Digital is now at the centre of communications strategy for brands and organisations. We need to help clients develop an integrated approach that ties in with larger business objectives” said Sankaran.

Carolina James Bajaj, with over 14 years' experience, has evolved with the media and PR industry in India while it grew exponentially. Her experience spans aviation, real estate, sports, tourism, and consumer verticals, having been closely associated with various agencies through her career. She also spent nearly five years with the Wadia Group where she led the Corporate Communications function across its businesses. Over the years, some of the clients she has worked with include Britannia, Bombay Dyeing, Go Airlines, South African Tourism, Viacom 18 - MTV, Nick and VH1, Sify, Standard Chartered Bank, Kings XI Punjab amongst many others.

“With over 120 people, Mumbai is Edelman India's largest representation.  The growth within Edelman and the steady addition of clients signifies an impressive level of trust that is unique in today's market. I am excited at the prospect of working with the best talent in the market and positive that my new role at Edelman will add to my personal experience.”

Welcoming the two senior appointments, Robert Holdheim, Managing Director, Edelman India, said, “We are delighted to have Vijay and Carolina on board. They bring with them great entrepreneurial experience, team building capabilities and a fresh focus. Each will play a key role in implementing our ongoing India growth strategy.”
