The first quarter of IRS 2011 has brought no relief for the publications in Kerala as only top 2 dailies in the state have registered marginal growth. There has been no major change in the pecking order except The New Indian Express which has replaced Deepika despite losing a few readers in the current survey.
Kerala’s No.1 daily ‘Malayala Manorama’ has maintained its leadership and registered a marginal growth in the first quarter of IRS 2011. Its current AIR stands at 98.37 lakh as compared to 98.01 lakh in the previous quarter and 94.75 lakh in IRS Q1 2010. The daily had added 3.82% more readers over the first quarter of IRS 2010.
‘Mathrubhumi’ holds the 2nd spot firmly by adding maximum readers in the current survey. The 3rd major player in Kerala, ‘Deshabhimani’ has seen a huge decline in the current survey after a consistent growth in the last 3 quarters.
