Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman, & Creative Director, Ogilvy South Asia, has accepted an invitation to be the Ambassador of the D&AD White Pencil. This role will be vital in spreading the word about the biennial White Pencil award and driving the industry worldwide to direct its creative powers towards a greater humanitarian good.
The launch event of D&AD White Pencil was held in London on Tuesday, April 12th. The partner cause chosen by D&AD for the inaugural award is Peace One Day, the global charity working to establish Peace Day (September 21) in the calendar to make it a day which everyone around the world can engage with and observe.
The D&AD White Pencil award will be given to an idea that raises awareness or changes behavior around a pressing social, environmental or health issue, as defined by the White Pencil Brief.
The D&AD White Pencil has been introduced to celebrate and commemorate D&AD's 50th Anniversary in 2011 by challenging the creative industry to find innovative solutions to global issues through creative communications and design solutions.
It is an initiative that draws on D&AD's legacy of championing great ideas and celebrating the talented people behind those ideas, a legacy that for 50 years has celebrated the power of ideas to sell products, improve brands and change perceptions.
From D&AD's perspective, the White Pencil is about moving our legacy on. It's about harnessing the power of creativity to make a real difference in the world around us. It's about demonstrating the hidden potential in D&AD's remit of the perpetuation of creative communication. And most importantly it is about realizing our community's ability to lend huge impact and strength to the campaigning voices of others and bring their messages and demands for change to the widest and most powerful audience.
In creating the White Pencil, D&AD has gone beyond the realm of any traditional creative awards scheme by launching a global initiative that not only promotes worthy causes but is open to anyone in any creative discipline who has a powerful idea. Or you may have never worked in a creative discipline before but feel inspired by the brief and your desire to make a difference.
D&AD represents the global creative, design and advertising communities and celebrates brilliance in commercial creativity by championing ideas – and the people behind them – that sell products, improve brands and change perceptions.
