publive-imageAfter saving the tiger, lighting the villages of India and promoting the green cause, NDTV has again kick started a movement to make people aware about the danger India's coastline is facing.

NDTV Toyota Etios Save India's Coast is an initiative to raise awareness regarding the serious threat to the Indian coastline.

A special program hosted by Dr Pranoy Roy was broadcast on NDTV last night at 10 pm to initiate the campaign. A special panel including famous environmentalist Sunita Narian discussed the serious threat that Indian coastline has from unplanned development.

Two of the senior NDTV reporters Sarah Jacob and Sikta Deo will be traveling the length of India's coastline to bring to light the ground reality, galvanize the local population and raise national awareness. Tomorrow Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh will join the NDTV team to extend his support towards the cause. Of India's 6000km coastline, only half of remains undestroyed.

It has been projected that in a few years from now India's beaches will disappear entirely. Around 26 percent of India's population (200 million people) lives on coastline.
