publive-imageShri Nitish Kumar, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Bihar unveiled a book titled 'Akhon Mein Aakash' at Hotel Maurya in Patna on 16th of March, 2011. The Programme was organized by Jagran Pehel, a strategic social initiative of Jagran Praksahn Ltd. Eminent personalities of the sate and key stake holders from the project (SKCC) attended the release function.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Nitish Kumar said, “Encouragement and progress of the girls symbolizes the progress of the state. Considering that this (SKCC) project has brought about so much change in so short a time, I assure you that I will approve any proposal submitted to me for extending the project to other colleges and districts.  My colleagues from Social Welfare and HRD are here at this function. They are requested to take this forward.”

The Book features selected experiences of young women from Bihar. These   experiences were collected during a joint Project of Jagran Pehel , Bihar State  Development Corporation and UNFPA  titled 'Sapno Ko Chali Chooney'(SKCC).

N. Vijaya Laxmi, Secretary, Social Welfare and MD, WDC, Government of Bihar said,

I have three tips based on my own experiences for the Champions of Change: Firstly, refuse to get married before you can stand on your own feet. Secondly, refuse to give dowry. Thirdly, don't hesitate to marry outside your cast.”

This  SKCC  project aims to build capacities of young women leaders, termed as "Champions of Change” and  groom them as social change agents who contribute to Women's Empowerment in the state and beyond. In its first phase, the programme covered about 50000 girls in 21 colleges in 6 districts of Bihar.

Rajat Ray from UNFPA also briefed the gathering on the success of the SKCC project and said, “As we have gathered here to witness our Hon'ble Chief Minister release the book of experiences of our champions of change, I feel we have not come to the end of the Sapno Ko Chali Chooney. Today we have 21 colleges with us  but we have yet to reach out to many more colleges, many more young women, many more teachers and  many more parents”.

Anand Madhab, National Head, Jagran Pehel shared his experiences of the project and said, “The book is a compilation of experiences written by girls in the college intervention  programme  of the project.  It deals with the struggles, experiences and survival of these girls in a very sensitive manner that strikes the right chord of the reader. This is not the final destination, we still have a long journey ahead to achieve our objective”.

The myriad experiences in the book describe perspectives and subjective emotions of young women from Bihar. And in between them, they throw a light on the status of women and their everyday struggles in life, reflecting survival, resilience, and courage and resolute.
