Pay DTH subscriber base drops by 6.60 lakhs in December quarter 2023: TRAI

The report shows that Tata Play leads among the four DTH operators, with a market share of 32.71%, followed by Bharti Telemedia at 27.76%, Dish TV at 20.81%, and Sun Direct at 18.72%

Delhi: The total active Pay DTH subscriber base decreased from 64.18 million in the September quarter to 63.52 million in the December quarter of 2023, as per the TRAI’s Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report" for the Quarter October-December, 2023.

The report shows that Tata Play leads among the four DTH operators, with a market share of 32.71%, followed by Bharti Telemedia at 27.76%, Dish TV at 20.81%, and Sun Direct at 18.72%.

According to the report, the number of private satellite TV channels permitted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) for uplinking and downlinking or both grew from 915 to 920. 

 Out of 920 permitted satellite TV channels, 910 channels are available for downlinking in India.

The number of Pay TV channels also grew from 361 to 363. This number was 903 in the June quarter.

Out of 363 pay channels, 259 are SD satellite pay TV channels and 104 are HD satellite pay TV channels

Multi-System Operators (MSOs), who have been granted Permanent Registration (for 10 years) by the Ministry of I&B for providing Cable TV services through Digital Addressable Systems in December stood at 998.
